Danish scientists have named a newly-discovered Jurassic-period creature after shock rock icon Alice Cooper. The ‘Serpula alicecooperi’ was discovered in a 190-million-year-old fossil found by amateur geologist Mette Hoftstedt. It is described as a marine worm with a crown of tentacles and a protective tube it could hide in to avoid predators.Hofstedt found the fossil on the Danish Island of Bornholm before it was studied by researchers Arden Basforth from the Natural History Museum of Denmark, Tomas Koči from the Natural History Museum in Prague, and Jesper Milàn and Sten Lennart Jakobsen from Geomuseum Faxe in Denmark.Milàn says: “When we studied the…
When Guns N’ Roses catapulted to stardom, Axl Rose developed as much a reputation for his elusiveness and mercurial behavior as for his striking, air-raid siren vocals. That reputation persisted when the band became inactive for much of the ’90s and ’00s, with Rose making sporadic and seemingly unrelated performances both live and on record.Fans may wring their hands over the glacial pace at which Rose has released music, but when he does commit to a track — whether his own or somebody else’s — the results are always electrifying, and his indelible sandpapery rasp adds something special to the song. Even when he’s not singing, his baritone Midwestern drawl is unmistakable.Check…
(Credits: Far Out / Nicholas Jeffries / Carlos Coronado) Sat 2 March 2024 19:45, UK “No, never heard it,” says your friend, who shrugs off a song suggestion like it’s second nature. All you need to do is play about three seconds of the chorus for them to sit up in their chair and go, “Oh, this one?” That’s the power of the catchy chorus, an element of music that can be as binding as it is annoying. The Beatles, AC/DC and Kiss have all contributed to the plethora of catchy choruses available within classic rock, but what song is…

A Song For All Seasons spawned their only UK Top…
Being successful in rock ‘n’ roll has a lot to do with talent, of course. But it would also be fair to say that where an artist ultimately ends up is influenced greatly by the kind of people they surround themselves with. The reality of the music business is that not everyone working within it has honest intentions. Managers, promoters and record executives sometimes possess and act on personal motivations (often financial in nature) that go far beyond the best interest of a band or artist, leading to unpleasant relationships where one side feels taken advantage of the other. You can guess which one is…

Jayashree Singh, Queen of Indian Rock | – Times of IndiaNewsJayashree Singh, queen of Indian rock “How can I tell her what she wants to know/How can I tell her why we came and how we’ll go,” sang Jayashree Singh spontaneously while making coffee for guitarist Amyt Datta a few years before she went. Lilting lyrics and meditative melodies often brewed in the kitchen for Jayashree, the late frontwoman of Skinny Alley, one of India’s oldest English-language rock bands that famously fused rock, funk and jazz into a seamless non-conformist sonic mosaic. The first song Jayashree had heard soon after…
Over the past few years, from20 has released a series of synth bangers that firmly established him as one of my favorite artists working in K-pop. With new single Demon, he makes a slight shift into funk pop, retaining his slick sound and catchy hooks. This sound isn’t quite as thrilling to me, mainly because it’s already been traversed by many other K-pop acts this decade. from20 brings plenty of flair to the groove, but the song could do with more breathing room. At just two and half minutes, it misses the chance to unveil one final knockout chorus. This…
