
West Belfast hip-hop trio Kneecap are having a 2024 to keep in mind, with rave critiques for his or her debut album Nice Artwork, movie pageant awards being bestowed upon their upcoming ‘heightened fact’ biopic Kneecap, and the likes of Elton John and previous Oasis bandleader Noel Gallagher mentioning themselves enthusiasts in their paintings.
In a brand new interview performed with NME, the trio – or extra particularly DJ Próvaí (JJ Ó Dochartaigh) – mentioned their stumble upon with Noel Gallagher at Glastonbury pageant, joking, “I have been an enormous fan of Blur my complete lifestyles, so rising up I used to be like, I wish to meet this fella.”
The band posted a photograph of the stumble upon on Instagram, with a caption referencing The Wolfe Tones’ vintage ‘riot’ track On The One Highway, and acknowledging Gallagher’s County Mayo roots.
“Mayo individuals are normally first rate spuds, as we’d say in Eire,” Próvaí tells NME. “It used to be beautiful to get chatting to him. He mentioned he’s an enormous fan. He got here behind the scenes for a wee kiss and a cuddle. It used to be excellent to satisfy him.”
“Now we are all perfect pals,” jokes rapper Móglaí Bap (Naoise Ó Cairealláin).
Gallagher stuck the band’s post-midnight set at the Shangri-Los angeles degree at Glastonbury, and declared the trio “in reality, in reality excellent.”
“We went to look this Northern Irish side road youngsters known as Kneecap… they’re roughly professional Republican rappers,” he instructed his buddy Matt Morgan’s podcast. “We get there and the tent is admittedly fucking smashed packed – you couldn’t get in. Those 3 lads stroll out, one in every of them is in a balaclava and so they rap in Gaelic [sic]. They’ve were given a track known as Get Your Brits Out. There’s a large number of humour to it… I couldn’t imagine how relaxing it used to be. Being of Irish heritage I discovered that rather humorous and so they have been in reality, in reality excellent.”
Previous this month, Kneecap, the movie, received the Easiest Irish Movie Award, the Target audience Award and the Irish Language Characteristic Movie Award, on the Galway Movie Fleadh. The movie can be launched in Eire on August 8, and in the United Kingdom on August 23. Dates for screenings international can be introduced quickly, despite the fact that the movie might not be proven in Israel, in gentle of the on-going genocide in Palestine.
