Sadistic Force Unleashes New EP: Morbid Odyssey
You might have caught wind of Sadistic Force a few years ago following the strength of their most recent album, Midnight Assassin, but if you didn’t, now’s the time. The Austin, Texas-based black-thrash trio are out for blood on their new EP, Morbid Odyssey, and they’ve given listeners a new track early.
“Strike After Strike” is a straightforward anthem, with Sadistic Force tearing through a slab of blackened thrash and speed metal, featuring a blistering solo from Bewitcher guitarist Matteo Von Bewitcher. Alongside the new music, Decibel spoke with Sadistic Force frontman James Oliver about “Strike After Strike,” Morbid Odyssey, and the balance between the past and future.
Morbid Odyssey is set for release on August 22 via Pure Abandon.
Song Development and Lineup Changes
Recent Writing Process
“The songs were written relatively recently in the grand scheme of things,” Oliver explains. “We had a lineup change in March of 2024. Once that was solidified, I began writing new material to showcase the evolution of our sound with the new members. There’s a significant injection of metalized blood in this new incarnation!”
Production Insights
Collaboration with Producer Noah Buchanan
Sadistic Force opted to work with producer Noah Buchanan, who has previously collaborated with them on their first two albums. Oliver shares, “Noah knows how this band is supposed to sound on record. I wanted to keep a consistent production sound now that we have new members to maintain cohesion.” He adds, “I think the record sounds sick as fuck.”
Sound and Style
Finding the Balance
When asked about the band’s sound, Oliver emphasizes the importance of balance. “For us, it’s always been about combining different extreme metal elements while retaining a traditional heavy metal backbone. We aim for a modern heaviness that is firmly rooted in the old school, with Motörhead always in our DNA.”
Guest Musicians on Morbid Odyssey
The EP features guest spots from notable musicians such as Matteo Von Bewitcher, Tony Rot, and Mark Pursino. Oliver explains his choices: “I picked shredders from bands I love. All three consistently produce metal that gets me hyped! Having them contribute solos felt like a natural choice.” He also notes, “I wanted to showcase something unique by incorporating guest guitar solos, which is less common lately.”
Track Spotlight: “Strike After Strike”
About the New Track
“Strike After Strike” was the second song Oliver crafted for the new material. “It’s the spiritual successor to our debut album’s first single, ‘Strike of the Iron.’ You can hear a significant development in technicality and ferocity,” he remarks. The track embodies the band’s relentless spirit and hints at the hard-hitting black thrash to come. As Oliver puts it, “There’s definitely more barbaric black thrash on the horizon! Hail Satan.”
Conclusion
With Morbid Odyssey on the way, Sadistic Force is poised to solidify their place in the metal scene. Their commitment to blending classic influences with modern intensity promises an exciting experience for both long-time fans and new listeners alike. The anticipation for the full EP is palpable, and if “Strike After Strike” is any indication, Sadistic Force is ready to strike hard.
