Sidewinder hail from Wellington, NZ, and have been shaped in 2021. They launched their debut album, Vines, in 2022, and right here’s their sophomore effort. Guitarist Ben Sargent describes it as darker and heavier, that includes monster riffs, doom sections, and eerie swampy blues. What’s to not like?
The album begins sedately with the opener Guardians, which includes a twangy strum and singer Jem Tupe turning in a few strains like a torch music. However get ready your self—issues pick out up with a monster riff prior to settling right into a bluesy groove. That riff returns within the refrain, so don’t get too at ease. Wasted House is groovier and comprises some crushing doom sections prior to the large stoner roll of Prisoner. Shit will get creepy and eerie on The Depths, a gradual, dramatic doom monitor that showcases Tupe’s spectacular vary. Disarm The King ramps up with some righteous stoner boogie prior to Wasteland Tune kicks up a load of mud. We then get to the spectacular stoner/psych monitor Northern Lighting fixtures. The overall minimize, Yggdrasil, begins out heavy however eases again into some other tidy groove.
I’ve been blessed with high quality stoner song this month, and this album is true up there. Ben Sargent is spot on, however what he didn’t point out is the glorious blank melodic vocals of Jem Tupe, which offer a really perfect counterpoint to the load of the song and stay issues fascinating. Tricky 2d album? No longer with this proof.
