Argentinian rock band The Otherness return with single from planned new album.
Louder Than War have championed the South American 4 piece, The Otherness, since John Robb wrote about them back in 2012 here. What held true about the Patagonian band back then still does: they are an honest, hard working band who clearly love pop and rock music and filter all the best bands, from Beatles to the Ramones, adding their own style to create their own sound.
The band released their debut album LMIRL back in 2021, which we reviewed here, and are now mixing their follow up album, Broken Latitudes, which is slated for a September, 2024 release. Between now and then the band will be releasing singles from the album, of which These Many Mistakes is the first.
These Many Mistakes starts with a 60s wall of sound, the big drum sound kicking it all off and the keyboard chords have an 80s dramatic sound whilst the guitar riffs are pure pop and the vocals like a West Coast (UK or US) voice. Lyrically it is about not being afraid to make mistakes, and the only way for change to happen is to take chances
The Otherness may not be breaking new ground with this single, but why should they, when they have found such a winning formula. They mix up pop and rock with such vivacity and a charming belief in the power of music that would thaw many an old bitter hearted critic.
They mean it, man.
