What You Need to Know About OTTTO
From: Venice Beach, California
First Album: OTTTO (2020)
New EP: Sweaty Pool (2025)
OTTTO formed in 2017 as a power trio playing a raw hybrid of alternative rock, thrash, and punk — the kind that thrives in skate parks and house shows. Trujillo, along with Bryan Noah Ferretti (vocals/guitar) and Patrick “Triko” Chavez (drums), released their debut LP, Life Is A Game, in 2023 and are back with a four-track EP titled Sweaty Pool. This new EP showcases aggressive crossover/hardcore ragers alongside more emotive, Mastodon-like moments.
“This EP represents us entering a new chapter, with every track taking a different approach. It shows the diversity of dynamics we have. We’re looking forward to sharing our music with the world and can’t wait to play these tunes live,” Trujillo states about their latest release, which features a guest appearance by Nick Oliveri (ex-Kyuss, ex-Queens of the Stone Age) on the title track.

Tye Trujillo (OTTTO) Names His 5 Favorite Bass Lines of All Time
1. Goggs, “Glendale Junkyard”
This song gets me hyped and inspired. The bass line harmonizes with the guitar before transitioning into a bass break. The tempo picks up, taking you on a journey filled with pure, raw energy. Shoutout to Goggs — such an underrated project.
2. Bad Brains, “The Regulator”
This bass line might be one of the most recognizable ever. It’s a straight punch in the face — no frills, just power. Listening to this at 9 years old was pivotal in inspiring me to pick up the bass.
3. Queens of the Stone Age, “The Sky Is Falling”
This track is trippy and unique. Nick’s bass line dances around the intro riff, building into a solid groove that sets the tune apart. The entire Songs for the Deaf record has been incredibly influential on me.
4. Joy Division, “Disorder”
Although it may seem cliché, I’ve recently delved deeper into Joy Division. Their pioneering 80s alt style is remarkable. The abstract nature of this bass line, combined with the chords, gives it a distinctive, spacey character that is both memorable and catchy.
5. Mass Mental?, “Bounce”
This bass line is sinister and captivating. It’s pure bass with no guitars, loud and energetic, blending fusion, metal, jazz, funk, punk, and more. It breaks rules and stands out as a deep cut masterpiece, available only on YouTube and CD.
