Ingrown’s New Album: An Ode to Idaho
Potato people Ingrown have just released their sophomore album, aptly named after their home state: Idaho. With a blistering pace of 11 tracks in just 18 minutes, the band delivers a message without any unnecessary frills. Their hardcore sound is not only infectious but also ensures that listeners will find themselves on the floor, perhaps even bruised—though in the most exhilarating ways possible.
Musical Themes and Influences
The album Idaho encapsulates the spirit of its namesake, touching on themes of guns, bikes, and a steadfast sense of self-reliance, all while fostering a strong sense of community akin to family. The production work by Andy Nelson, known for his collaborations with bands like Jesus Piece, Weekend Nachos, and Pain of Truth, further solidifies the band’s authentic sound and approach.
Interview with Ross Hansen
In keeping with the album’s bite-sized nature, we conducted a brief yet impactful interview with guitarist and vocalist Ross Hansen. Below, he candidly discusses various topics, including the band’s journey, their unique position in the hardcore scene, and the essence of their new album.
Album Transition: From Debut to Sophomore Release
What has the time between albums been like for the band? What’s different about it than the first time?
Touring as much as possible! This time there was pressure to follow up the first LP.
Being a Hardcore Band in Idaho
What is it like to be a hardcore band from Idaho? What makes Boise unique to the other scenes in the PNW?
It’s awesome. Idaho rules. Far drives should never stop you from going out and touring. The scene is better than it’s ever been. It’s unique because it’s almost like it started over from scratch and it started back up post-pandemic.
In-Studio Experience with Andy Nelson
How was Andy Nelson in-studio?
Andy is king. Amazing producer. Amazing dude.
Lessons from Touring
What have you learned from touring?
Touring is hard work. It’s boring sometimes. It’s stressful. Anything can happen. But it’s all worth getting to play songs you love for people you love with people you love.
Future Touring Aspirations
What cities would you want to play again? What cities do you want to play in that you haven’t before?
New York always. LA always. Bangkok always. Tokyo always. In America, I’d love to play more shows in Florida. We love to play Alaska and Hawaii since bands don’t go there much. Anywhere in Europe.
Favorite Bands to Share the Stage With
Who are your favorite bands to play with?
Snuffed on Sight, Drain, Blood Incantation, Pain of Truth, Fleshwater, Creeping Death—basically any band we have toured with in the past few years. Best people and best bands.
The Importance of Self-Reliance
How important of a life skill is self-reliance on the band as a whole?
Being in a band has taught me more about being an adult and managing finances and my time more than a job ever could.
Impactful Songwriting
How do you get so much mileage out of 11 tracks in 18 minutes? Was it intended to be as bite-sized as it is?
Songs don’t need to be long. Just impactful.
Inspirational Bands
What bands inspired you, hardcore or not?
Touring with Obituary was extremely impactful to us as of recent.
Future Plans
What’s next for the band?
TOUR TOUR TOUR [west coast tour with Mongrel, Apex Predator, Condition One, and more].
Final Thoughts
Anything else you want to add?
Start a band. Go on tour. Make new friends. Put on for your city/state/scene/friends/family.
